Horrific Face Of Britain's Crime Epidemic – Yahoo! News UK
Police refused to hand over photos of the 22-year-old's wounds, saying they were too gruesome to be broadcast.
One veteran officer said they were the worst injuries he had seen in 18 years on the force.
But after pressure from Sky News, the victim got his wishes and Sussex Police released the image.
Jack – whose full identity is being withheld to protect him – wanted people to see what can happen to innocent people on Britain's crime-ridden streets.
He was walking with a male student friend, also 22, near Brighton seafront when they were pounced on in an entirely unprovoked attack.
Five skinheads wearing hooded tops slashed and gouged them with broken bottles during the sickening assault in Middle Street at 2.30am on Sunday morning.
The attack was so savage, Jack was left requiring reconstructive facial surgery. His friend needed a large number of stitches.
There was so much blood, a special council clean-up team had to be called in to wash down the road.
DS Stephen French, leading the investigation, said: “This was a particularly horrific and savage attack that will leave both men scarred for life.
“We believe that the group of suspects were probably seen by door personnel and possibly turned away from clubs in the area before the attack.
“We are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the attack or have seen the men, particularly those who service the night-time economy such as security staff or taxi drivers, to contact us.
“It is possible that some or all of the suspects may have had blood on them.
“Did anyone you know return home on Sunday morning with blood-splattered clothing?”
The shaven-headed thugs who carried out the sickening attack are described as white, between 20 and 30-years-old, and wearing light-coloured tops.

- Personal Injury May Be Affected by Extended Pre-Action Protocols
[Legal:Personal-Injury] The Civil Justice Council (CJC) has completed various studies and is now seeking to establish the introduction of pre-action protocols across all actions which can be litigated in the Courts. The introduction of these pre-action protocols is aimed at persuading potential litigants to attempt to resolve their dispute before they start a claim and demands for Court proceedings are issued.
